The massacre in an Orlando gay nightclub has focused presidential candidates back onto the so-called War on Terrorism or “the new face of the war on terror.”  This war is now in its fifteenth year and what at one time seemed to be exceptional is now the normal.
KPFA’s Mitch Jesenich leads a conversation with veteran journalist Mark Danner, who argues in his book “Spiral: Trapped in the Forever War,” that the 15-year long war on terror appears to have no end in sight. Fear has created what Danner calls the sense of “permanent emergency” among the American public and administration alike in keeping the wars in the Middle East percolating.
