Presented by the Institute of International Studies at University of California, Berkeley.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel. Since then, more than ten thousand civilians have died. Some died in terrorist acts, many more as so-called “collateral damage” of air strikes. Even after a terrorist attack, can a state kill its way out of what is at bottom a political dilemma? Berkeley veteran journalist and faculty member Mark Danner will discuss what happened on October 7 and what led up to it, Israel’s response, and where the Israel-Palestinian conflict might go from here.
